This year’s National Truck Driver Appreciation Week was September 12th through September 18th. It is the time of year America honors all professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in tackling one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs.  We appreciate the hard work all our drivers do every day and for making safety a priority. Drivers provide one of the most important services to this country — the timely delivery of critical goods that Americans cannot live without!

This year each driver at All Truck was gifted a $50 bonus to their check as a thank you.  We also had daily prize drawings for the entire week.  Thank you again to all the professional drivers out there! #ThankATrucker

It is February in the Midwest, and let’s face it, winter weather is still here and could be for much longer than we would like. Even the most experienced drivers can struggle in the harsh driving conditions that this season has to offer. Ice and snow are just some of the challenges that drivers face. Read below for some tips that will prepare you for winter driving. Use Extreme Caution When Travelling On Icy Roads <ul><li>Slow down and increase your following distance. It can take up to 10 times the normal distance to stop your truck. 	</li></ul> <ul><li>Bridges and overpasses freeze before roadways. 	</li></ul> <ul><li>Ramps are the last place to be treated for ice. You need to slow down more than normal in case there is ice. 	</li></ul> <ul><li>Stay alert when driving on ice. Always avoid sudden steering, breaking and acceleration. 	</li></ul> <ul><li>If conditions become unsafe to drive – DON’T </li></ul> Use Extreme Caution When Driving In Snow 	 <ul><li>Again, always avoid sudden steering, braking and acceleration movements. 	</li></ul> <ul><li>Never use your engine (Jake) brakes. 	</li></ul> <ul><li>Dry or powdery snow usually provides more stability than wet or slushy snow. 	</li></ul> <ul><li>Plan ahead by listening to the weather forecasts for where you are heading. </li></ul> <ul><li>Slow down! Being in a hurry will only cause you problems. 	</li></ul> <ul><li>Increase your following distance. </li></ul> <ul><li>Always be prepared to stop. 	</li></ul> <ul><li>Leave yourself an out. International Roadcheck 2022 The annual roadside inspection blitz will start on May 17, 2022, through May 19, 2022. This blitz is the largest targeted enforcement program worldwide that focuses on commercial motor vehicles. During this 3-day window, 17 trucks and buses will be inspected every minute across North America. This year, the focus will be on wheel ends. Wheel end components support the heavy loads carried by commercial motor vehicles, maintain stability and control, and are critical for braking. Violations involving wheel end components historically account for about one quarter of the vehicle out-of-service violations discovered during International Roadcheck, and past International Roadcheck data routinely identified wheel end components as a top 10 vehicle violation. What Should a Driver Expect This Year? The checks primarily will include Level 1 DOT inspections — the most thorough inspections of a truck driver and vehicle. Drivers will be asked to provide their license, endorsements, medical card, logs and ELD documents. The vehicle inspection will include a check of the: <ul><li>Braking System</li><li>Coupling Devices</li><li>Exhaust System</li><li>Frame</li><li>Fuel System</li><li>Lights</li><li>Safe Loading</li><li>Steering Mechanism</li><li>Suspension</li><li>Tires</li><li>Van And Flatbed Trailer Bodies</li><li>Wheels and Rims</li><li>Windshield Wipers</li></ul> DOT will also be paying special attention to wheel ends. During the inspection of wheel ends, Inspectors will: <ul><li>Check for cracks or unseated locking rings, studs or clamps.</li><li>Check for bent, cracked or broken rims on the inside and outside wheel rims.</li><li>Check for loose, broken, missing or damaged wheel fasteners and elongated stud holes.</li><li>Check the hub for lubricant leaks, missing caps or plugs.</li><li>Check the inner wheel seal for leaks.</li><li>Check the tire and valve stem for leaks.</li><li>Check for proper inflation, cuts and bulges on all tires, including the inside tire on dual sets.</li><li>Check for regrooved tires on steering axle.</li><li>Check tread wear and measure major tread groove depth.</li><li>Inspect the sidewall for improper repairs, such as tire plugs.</li><li>Check for exposed fabric or cord.</li><li>Check for markings on the tire that would exclude its use on a steering axle.</li><li>Check for debris between the tires.</li><li>And check for tires touching one another or any part of the vehicle.</li></ul> What Should a Driver Do To Get Ready? Here are some best practices to make sure your inspections go as smoothly as possible: <ul><li>Pre-Trip the vehicle, including checking the load.</li><li>Check tires for proper inflation with a pressure gauge.</li><li>After hooking to a trailer, make sure to roll a couple of feet and press the brake pedal hard to make sure that the brakes are adjusted properly. Perform this three times before continuing with your trip.</li><li>Minimize driving distractions, including phone use and a loud radio.</li><li>Keep the logbook current, including shipping and trailer information. Inspectors will want to see the last seven days of activity.</li><li>Inspectors will want to look at your CDL, medical cards, trailer registration, and documents. Make sure all paperwork is accurate and current.</li><li>Remember that burned out lights and bad tires could trigger a more thorough inspection. If a Level 1 inspection is completed, get a sticker for it.</li><li>Avoid lapses in attention and poor judgment by getting enough rest. Sleep deprivation is a threat to safe driving.</li><li>No attitude, please. A driver's best behavior during an inspection is always professional and courteous.</li></ul> Remember that all inspection violations become part of your safety record for 3 years and effects the Company’s CSA/SMS record.

Safe Summer Driving Tips&nbsp;&nbsp;Warmer weather brings even more challenges when driving . This is the time that we must make sure that we are not letting our guard down to the changing driving environments that await you on the roadways.&nbsp;&nbsp;Here are a few driving environments to be aware of that can help in preventing an accident.&nbsp;&nbsp;<ul><li>Be aware of children. There will be an increase of children playing near traffic areas. This includes when it is dark out.&nbsp;</li><li>Be prepared for it to take longer than usual to get to each destination as overall traffic on public roadways will increase.&nbsp;</li><li>With more out of state motorist on the roadways, you should increase your following distance to allow for the bad driving behaviors of others.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Watch out for erratic driving, sudden lane changes and turns, and for sudden stops for no apparent reason.&nbsp;</li><li>Construction season has started, so slow down in construction zones.&nbsp;</li></ul>&nbsp;Good drivers avoid accidents, but defensive drivers become great drivers. Here are some driving tips to help you go from a good driver to a great driver.&nbsp;&nbsp;<ul><li>Watch your following distances closely. Maintaining a minimum of 8 seconds following distance between you and the vehicle in front of you at all times will allow more reaction time to hazards that may appear in front of you.&nbsp;</li><li>Look ahead as far as you can see. Looking at least 15 seconds ahead will give you more of an advantage at spotting problems on the roadway and prevent you from becoming the problem.&nbsp;</li><li>Scan driveways, entrances, and exits for traffic. If you see people and vehicles in these area, slow down, make eye contact with the person, and be prepared to stop.&nbsp;</li><li>Be alert to traffic conditions, road conditions and weather. They can change suddenly and without warning.&nbsp;</li><li>Avoid erratic maneuvers. A quick move to avoid one accident could cause you to be involved in another.&nbsp;</li><li>Use your turn signals. Try to stay in the right lane as much as possible. Lane changes can increase your chances of having an accident.&nbsp;</li><li>Plan your trip before you leave. Know where you are going and the route that you will take to get there.&nbsp;</li><li>Be courteous and patient with other drivers. Other motorists have no idea how difficult it can be to drive a truck. Slow down and give yourself space!!</li><li>Yield to pedestrian traffic. They will always have the right of way.&nbsp;</li><li>Use your mirrors constantly. Looking behind you and on the sides of you are just as important as seeing what is ahead. Make sure that you look in your mirrors ever 4 to 6 seconds.&nbsp;</li><li>Be prepared to stop at all times. Drivers who are unprepared to stop are never ready and finds themselves breaking in panic situations.&nbsp;</li><li>Control your speed. Speeding is one of the greatest leading cause of accidents. Speeding causes less time to react to situations on the roadways, increases stress and fatigue, and cost you more money in the long run. SLOW DOWN!!!!&nbsp;</li><li>Stay off of your cell phones. Do you get upset over people using their cell phones while driving? Then why would you do it? It has been proven that a cell phone and texting while driving is no different than driving while intoxicated. This includes using a Bluetooth devise. Please put your phones away while driving and enjoy the roadways.&nbsp;</li></ul>&nbsp;By following these tips you will go from being a good driver, to being a great driver. &nbsp;Be safe by choice, and not by luck. &nbsp;Have a summer full fun and happy memories!

Brake Safety Week 2022 is August 21st through the 27th. This weeklong program is conducted annually. DOT will focus on tractor and trailer brake systems and air hoses in every state. According to the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, Brake-related violation make up the largest percentage of all out-of-service violation for vehicles. They also report that brake systems and brakes out of adjustment violations account for 38.9% of all vehicle out-of-service violations, the most of any category of vehicle violations. To Avoid These Types of Violations: <ul><li>&nbsp;Make sure to perform a thorough pre-trip inspection.</li><li>Perform an air leak check (also known as a 4-point or 7-point brake check) as outlined in your Driver’s Safety Manual.</li><li>Listen for audible air leaks.</li><li>Check hoses for cuts, holes, bulges, and chafing.</li><li>Check brake liners and drums for cracks, oil, and debris.</li><li>Before leaving on a trip, make sure that your brakes are in proper adjustment. This is done by rolling a couple of feet and pressing the brake pedal all the way down and then repeating the same action again two more times allowing the automatic slack adjuster to adjust to the proper stroke length.</li><li>Any defective equipment should be placed out of service and Maintenance should be notified of the problem so that repairs can be made.</li><li>DO NOT use defective equipment.</li></ul> By following the instructions above, violations will be avoided and will continue to improve the overall safety of our fleet.&nbsp;Should you be inspected, please remember to not have an attitude with the officer. A driver's best behavior during an inspection is always professional and courteous.&nbsp;

We had a busy Fall at All Truck and had so much to celebrate! We started out with Driver Appreciation Week and our Employee Appreciation Brunch in September and ended with National Technician Appreciation week in October.&nbsp; Every year we look forward to Driver Appreciation Week. It is amazing to see the country honor our industry and our team of professional drivers every second week in September. Daily raffles took place, and twenty-one lucky drivers were randomly selected to win.&nbsp;The prizes included gift cards, Chicago Bears coolers and tumblers and a signed Khalil Mack Chicago Bears jersey. Our grand prize was a $200 American Express gift card. We ended the week on Sunday September 18th with our Annual Employee Appreciation Brunch. Every year we honor our employees who have reached 5, 10, 15, 20, 25+ years of service. It was an amazing event and we loved seeing our drivers and internal employees celebrating together. We honored our maintenance department during National Technician Appreciation Week October 2-8. Every member of our shop team received a special gift and our whole company celebrated them with a catered lunch. Fall Celebrations at All Truck

Winter has finally arrived and with winter comes cold temperatures, snow, and ice. This week and into the next, reports show that cold air will engulf the areas that we operate in. Dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills will likely last through Christmas weekend and into the early part of next week. These cold temperatures are hard on equipment and can cause issues such as equipment not starting and other mechanical issues.All Truck would like to remind our employees of the following best practices to reduce downtime and injuries: Equipment <ul><li>Pre-Trips: Make sure that you pre-trip your equipment thoroughly. Noticing issues early and getting them addressed immediately will help to avoid breakdowns.</li></ul> <ul><li>Starting Equipment: If you have trouble starting your tractor, please do not crank the engine for more than 15 seconds. If the engine has not turned over after making 3 attempts, contact the Maintenance Department for assistance.</li></ul> <ul><li>Air Tanks: Air tanks must be drained at the end of each trip to verify that the air system is free of water. This is done by pulling the cord that is attached to the air tank or opening the bleeder valve.</li></ul> <ul><li>Fuel: Make sure that you fill and top off your fuel tanks at the end of your day. This will help prevent the tanks from gelling.</li></ul> <ul><li>Engine Heaters: Plug in engine heaters at the end of your day. This must be done while the engine is still hot.</li></ul> Driver Prep <ul><li>Dress Properly: Wear at least 3 layers of loose-fitting clothing, insulated gloves and boots, cover your head and any exposed skin. </li></ul> <ul><li>Stay Dry: Carry extra clothes. Moisture can increase heat loss from the body.</li></ul> <ul><li>Food and Drinks: Carry extra food and water on the truck and when possible, drink warm liquids.</li></ul> <ul><li>Limit Exposure: Take frequent breaks in warm, dry areas.</li></ul> <ul><li>Cold Stress: know the symptoms; reddening of skin, tingling, pain, swelling, leg cramps, numbness, and blisters are all signs of cold stress.</li></ul> Injury Prevention <ul><li>Look for Ice: Scan the area and look for ice before exiting a truck, or even a building in cold weather. Scanning area for an extra moment or two can prevent you from falling. If there is ice on the windshield there is ice on the steps.&nbsp;</li></ul> <ul><li>3 Points of Contact: When exiting and entering the truck, always face the truck and use 3 points of contact.</li></ul> <ul><li>Look Up: Look for snow buildup at the back of the trailer before opening and closing trailer doors. Us caution, you never know when a large piece of snow and ice will fall from the top of a trailer.</li></ul> <ul><li>Less is More: Equipment becomes difficult to use when it is cold. If a task becomes difficult to perform, then ask for assistance. Over exertion could lead to a lifetime of pain and regret.</li></ul> <ul><li>Recognize Hazards: Do not ignore potential hazards. Slow down and stay focused on the task at hand.</li></ul> Driving <ul><li>Get Well Rested: You will be more alert, able to identify and react to changing road conditions more quickly. You will also think more clearly and therefore be a safer driver.</li></ul> <ul><li>Traffic: reduce your speed and do not try to keep up with traffic. We have recently added five new 2023 Mack Anthem AN64T tandem axle day cab tractors to our fleet. These state-of-the-art tractors will be stationed at a customer site in New Haven, IN. The New Haven facility runs very high mileage lanes, so the addition of the new Macks will greatly reduce the tractor down-time, increase productivity, and help with driver retention. “We are so excited to be adding these Mack Anthem tractors. It is our first time purchasing a Mack, and we would like to thank M&amp;K Truck Centers for coming through for us with these five tractors!” Said Nino Alagna, President at All Truck Transportation. We have recently added five new 2023 Mack Anthem AN64T tandem axle day cab tractors to our fleet. These state-of-the-art tractors will be stationed at a customer site in New Haven, IN. 

All Truck Adds New Mack Anthem Trucks to Their Fleet 

International Roadcheck begins May 16th through the 18th. During this three-day event, Inspectors will be conducting compliance and enforcement initiatives of motor carriers, vehicles, and driver safety. This year, Inspectors will focus on anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and cargo securement. Inspectors will also conduct their usual roadside safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and drivers.Level one inspections will be conducted with inspectors looking for driver and vehicle safety compliance. During a level one inspection, Inspectors will be looking at the following: <ul><li>Vehicle Safety – Vehicle brake systems, cargo securement, coupling devices, driveshaft components, driver’s seats, fuel and exhaust systems, frames, lights, steering mechanisms, suspensions, tires, rims, hubs, windshield wipers and emergency equipment (I.E. Fire extinguishers and triangles).</li></ul> <ul><li>Driver Safety – Operating credentials, hours-of-service documentation, status in the drug and alcohol clearinghouse, seat belt usage, and distracted driving.</li></ul> To avoid vehicle violations, drivers should make sure to perform thorough pre-trip inspections before going out onto roadways. This includes checking the ABS system and performing in-cab air leak test outlined in your driver’s handbook. How to inspect the ABS system: While parked, turn the key to the on position and look to see if the ABS light on the dash and the trailer turns on for a few seconds and then turns off. If the lights remain on, there is a problem with the ABS system that needs immediate attention. The vehicle should be red tagged and reported to Maintenance. Also make sure to notate the defect(s) on your DVIR. DO NOT operate a vehicle or pull a load with a trailer that has defects. To avoid driver related violations, drivers should observe and obey traffic laws and make sure that their logs are accurate with your current shipping and trailer information. Drivers should also make sure that all the previous day’s logs have been certified. Should a driver receive a roadside inspection, make sure to notify the Safety Department immediately. All inspection forms should be submitted to Safety by the end of the day. Thank you for all that you do! Drive safe and work safe!
